Recent research project participation

·         2009 - Violence Prevention and Intervention Services Development in the NT: Phase 2 Evaluation ($180,000) – pending.

·         2009 - CDU will develop, in partnership with Akeyulerre and relevant stakeholders a formative evaluation approach that encourages learning through the life of the service. ($50,000) – pending.

·         2008/09 – The Evaluation of the Differential Response Pilot Project - The introduction of a Differential Response Framework (DRF) is one of a number of important reforms to the child protection system in the Northern Territory ($50,000).

·         2008 – An exploration and evaluation of the initial phases of the Safe Houses/Safe Places program (an NT Emergency response program. ($100,000)

·         2006 – 2008 - Evaluation of a suite of projects concerned with Indigenous Family Violence ($260,000).

·         2005 – NCVER VET/ACE project. The project focuses on the ways in which ACE and VET sectors can and do work together for common outcomes in the northern Australian context. NCVER ($56,000).

·         2004/05 Pathways to employment and training for the employment disadvantaged (2004) Funded by NT DEET, auspiced by NTCOSS. This project, set out to consider options that might be used in the Northern Territory to improve employment and training opportunities for mature aged, long term unemployed, people from a non-English speaking background and youth. ($54,000).

·         2004/05 – Cross-cultural Engagement Project – This project sought to improve cross-cultural engagement between natural and cultural resource management agencies and Indigenous communities. CRC Tropical Savannas – ($100,000). 

·         2004 - Kigaruk Evaluation project.  This project evaluated the effectiveness of the Kigaruk program, which was designed to help overcome the very low representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men in senior and executive positions in the Northern Territory Public Service. Funded by OCPE – ($30,000).

·         2003/04 - Australian Defence Force Cadets Indigenous Participation Project A project for the Commonwealth Department of Defence as part of the Cadet enhancement Program.  A joint CLR and CINCRM research project. Australian Defence Force – ($40,000).

·         2001/03 - Action Research into Managing, Undertaking and Disseminating Aboriginal Health Research for Improved Health Outcomes. CRCATH research grant – ($213,000).

·         2001/02 – How Tour Guides Learn. Although much investigation has been undertaken as to the needs of the tourism industry for training by Tourism Training Australia and others.  CRC for Sustainable Tourism grant – ($21,000).

·         1999/00 - Indigenous Labour Market Report and Development Strategy Project.  This project, carried out in conjunction with Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, investigated the current situation in regard to the Indigenous labour market in the Northern Territory. NT Area Consultative Committee (NTACC) - through the Department of Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business project grant – ($91,000).

·         1998/99 - Learning  Processes of Pastoralist Stakeholders in the Tropical Savannas - this study identified, described, and shared knowledge and understanding of some of the learning processes of pastoralist by investigating how they go about learning and change. Report - More than can be said: A study of pastoralists - stories of change and learning. TSCRC project grant – ($60,000).

·         1998 - An Evaluation Of The Essential Services Maintenance Operators (ESMO) Pilot Project.  This study was commissioned by the Department Of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DEETYA), with the support of Aboriginal Affairs Department (Western Australia). DEETYA project grant – ($39,620).

·         1998 - The above case study formed a part of a larger DEETYA national project to evaluate the operations of five Traineeship schemes (Sydney, Adelaide, Cherbourg, Port Augusta and the Kimberley projects). DEETYA grant – ($16,000).

·         1997 - VET in Schools: staff development needs.  This project included school, industry and ITAB participants involved in the VET in schools arena.  Northern Territory Department of Education project grant – ($17,000).

·         1996/97 - Exploring Partnerships and Appropriate Practices in the Delivery of Vocational Education and Training Courses in Rural and Remote Communities. Australian National Training Authority Research Advisory Committee (ANTARAC) Project Grant – ($90,000).

·         1995/96 - Composite Mode Program Delivery to Remote/Rural Areas of the Northern Territory - with Dr J. Cameron and Mr G. Shaw. The primary intent of this project was to explore the composite (mixed) mode of delivery as it affects rural and remote students. Project Grant - NTU Small Grants – ($16,000).

·         1995 - The New Zealand Rural Education Activities Programme (REAP).  This study set out to explore an education provision that is unique to Australasia.  Project grant - Australia New Zealand Foundation – ($3,000).

·         1995 - The Professional Staff Development Needs of Remote Area Adult Educators. – ($65,000)
