The effects of cold and cabbage leaf compresses on tissue hardness in breast engorgement

by admin last modified 2005-04-20 08:23 PM

this project will establish whether or not cabbage leaves and cold decrease the hardness of the breast tissue in breast engorgement. Breats engorgement is a painful problem experienced by many lactating women at about the third day postpartum. The breasts are very hard and full of milk, which causes distress to the mother and suckling problems for the baby. This decreases the likelihood that the mother will continue to breast feed. Although some would argue that infrared heat ray and/or cpold compresses, and binding may help, there is currently no treatment that has been shown to be effective, or best practice, beyond continuing breast feeding the baby. If this study shows that cabbage leaves and/or cold compresses are effective, it will provide an indication of best practice.
